Last weekend our theatre department virtually attended the Arkansas State Thespian Festival. We had several students participate in workshops with industry professionals (Acting for Film, Lighting Design, Comedy Writing, Improvisation, Puppetry, Building a Better Portfolio, Directing, and many more). We also had some students receive recognition for their excellence.
Two of our seniors, John Laing and Gianna Corbino, auditioned for performance scholarships. As a result, John and Gianna received collective awards of over $84,000 in scholarships from Southeast Missouri State University, Greensboro College, Ouachita Baptist University, New York Film Academy, University of Arkansas Little Rock, and Southern Arkansas University.
Additionally, Eleni Konomi and John Laing were individually awarded a $12,000 scholarship from the Savannah College of Art and Design. John for his presentation in the Lighting Design category, and Eleni for her performance in the Solo Musical category. Both students were also awarded a "Superior" rating and were nominated for "Best in Show" by the festival judges.
Overall the Arkansas Arts Academy walked away from the weekend with our students gaining a lot of excellent industry knowledge, some invaluable audition experience, and over $108,000 in scholarship offers. Yay Thespians!

Arkansas Dance Network hosted the first Arkansas Middle School Dance Festival at Arkansas Arts Academy. Thank you to the directors and teachers who attended this event and stayed with us the following day for professional development.
