Freaky Physiology System

Students in Ms. Foust's Human Anatomy and Physiology class spent time today with the Director of Arts Integration, Mr. Jones, to create scientific illustrative compositions.  During the spring semester these students have studied various systems of the human body.  To showcase their gained knowledge the class are creating scientific illustrations of assigned systems as an Arts Integration project.

The concept was planned between Ms. Foust and Mr. Jones as an opportunity for the students to transalte scientific observation to a form of academic illustration.  The original plan was going to be individual studies on paper.  However, two events contributed to the project to evolve into a larger and more exciting experience.

First, The Scott Family Amazeum is one of our partnering museums and is hosting the second annual NWA Maker Days which invites schools to participate in hands-on STEAM inspired activities at their schools and share the process with educators across Northwest Arkansas.  The Amazeum offers schools willing to participate up to $500 for supplies to make the project a successful experience.  AAA is proud to be a recipient of the sponsorship and participate in the event for two years in a row!

With the generous funding from the Amazeum for the NWA Maker Days event the project is BIGGER and BETTER!  Now students are illustrating the systems to life size scale!

But wait, there's more....

Second, the systems are being painted on large sheets of clear vinyl and will be on display in the High School Commons during the performances of the high school musical production Freaky Friday.  Individuals attending the musical performance will be able to "pose" behind the "Freaky Physiology Systems" to take a Freaky Physiology Selfie before and after the show.

AND BONUS- Mrs. McWilliams' High School students will have works on display in the foyer of the PAC during the performances as well.  These works produced by our visual artists not only showcase student talent but make creative connections to the themes of the musical!

Congratualtions Ms. Foust and students on an "Amazing" project!  And THANK YOU to the Scott Family Amazeum for your continued support to education!
