Kindergarten celebrate Earth Day with butterfly rings

The kindergarten classes continue celebrating Earth Day! This month the students have been learning about the different stages of development for butterflies: egg, which are laid on plants by the adult female butterfly; caterpillar, the feeding stage;  pupa, transition stage to chysalis and finally emerging into to a  beautiful butterfly!  Interestingly, it was the students who actually discovered  and identified a Chrysalis while visiting Compton Gardens yesterday!

After their visit to Compton Gardens  and learning about the life cycle of butterflies the kindergarten teachers offered an arts integration project. Students applied  what they learned about the many different kinds of butterflies and created their very own paper butterfly with original markings and embellishments! The design included a ring for easy attachment to the hand to imitate the fluttering of the wings.  Each creation made its way outside during recess and socialized with all the other kindergarten butterflies (with masks of course).  Thank you Kingergarten Team!  Happy Earth Day!
