7th grade students in Mrs. Kehr's Language Arts class combine printmaking to make posters

This week in Mrs. Kehr’s 7th grade Language Arts classes students created posters as part of an arts integration project.  Students have been learning about the importance of all perspectives and voices within a community.  Students were asked to think about their position on a cause and how they could use their voice to bring awareness to that cause to make a positive impact.

For the Language Arts component students were given the task of researching a topic and write an original slogan that supported their position of the cause. For the Arts component, students were given instruction in the media of printmaking.  Each student created a logo/emblem/ symbol that served as visual statement to support their slogan.  The symbols were transferred to a block where the students carved the design into the surface.  The blocks were then inked and editions of prints of posters were made.

The results were a collection of strong student voices calling attention to various causes/movements that are important to our kids, examples included: awareness of mental health disorders, ethnicity and gender equality, human rights, protest against violence and human trafficking.  Parents, you should all be very proud of your children!
