Message about Seniors from Mrs. Wright: I understand there has been some confusion regarding seniors status for graduation as per the Governor's proclamation. There was confusion for administrators across the state as well and the Arkansas Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has now provided some clarification as follows: *Seniors are excused from the following graduation requirements of the state: CPR class, digital learning course, personal finance, and passing the state civics exam. *Seniors ARE NOT excused from school for the remainder of the semester, digital or otherwise, regardless of grades earned in the third quarter. *Seniors currently enrolled in concurrent credit courses with local colleges and universities must complete those courses according to the instructions of the affiliated institution in order to be awarded credit for those courses. (If you are in a concurrent class through NWACC, follow NWACC's instructions to finish the course and earn credit) *Seniors currently enrolled in AP courses must finish the course AND take the AP exam in order to earn weighted credit for the course. *If the school closure order is lifted, seniors will be expected to return to campus and their original schedules until the week of graduation. I hope this clarification helps all of you understand your responsibilities. It definitely helped myself and other administrators across the state understand what we are expected to do. Remember that your teachers have built flexibility into their digital lessons so that you can engage when you are able to. I have also received several comments/questions about graduation. We will look for creative ways to honor all of our graduates in the event that schools are still closed come June. There will be a senior survey coming to all senior parents and students asking for information that we can use to build a graduation video of all students that can be shared with the broader community. In the event that graduation cannot happen on June 5th, we will post the digital graduation video featuring all students and schedule a time for seniors to have one last get together in the summer before leaving for college. Dr. Robert Mueller will be leading the students of the AAA Symphonic Orchestra in a Masterclass today! Dr. Mueller is the chair of composition and theory and the University of Arkansas and the director of the U of A Symphony Orchestra. In addition to rehearsing with the students, Dr. Mueller will also be talking to students about music scholarship opportunities for music and non-music majors attending the U of A. AAA HS is spreading the love around campus. Students in World History class completed a classroom activity illustrating economic systems, and some students created paper hearts "working" as part of the "proletariat". Students in English 10 classes reinforced grammar skills and writing complete sentences using specific details. Students selected a teacher whose class they "loved" being a part of and explained why that teacher or class was significant to them as individuals. Around the HS building, you will see the finished products of their cross-curricular work displayed on classroom windows and doors.
Advance ticket sells for the junior high dance will continue until the day of February 28th . They will be sold during lunch times. This dance is for 7th-9th grade. Tickets are $5 in advance, $8 at the door on the night of the 28th. Snacks and drinks will also be made available for student purchase!
A group of AAA HS art students will take part in Art on The Bricks in downtown Rogers this month! On February 13th their artwork will be on display at Studio 300 from 4:30 to 7:30pm (300 N. 2nd St.). Stop by to support these local young artists and admire the products of their hard work and talent!!!

The middle school guitar and percussion departments are combining for a winter concert. Students will perform selections from classic rock, modern rock, and other styles as ensembles. Many students will perform in multiple capacities, and everyone in the classes will have the opportunity to perform. The concert will take place on Friday, February 7th at 6:30 pm in the PAC. Admission is free; donations are appreciated.

Both Thomas and Samuel will be representing AAA at the all-region clinic today and tomorrow. High School Culinary Arts went to www.cobblestonefarms.org and met with their excellent and knowledgeable Gardner Laura Brewer. She showed the students around the farm and educated them on helping the food insecure peoples in our area by gardening and service. We picked almost 300 pounds of peppers, Packed over 20 dozen eggs, pulled weeds and took a tour of the garden, greenhouses and chickens! It was hard work and a great trip! With a growing population of 8 billion people, 24% of the earth’s land is being used to raise livestock. Arts Academy students in Mr. Mac’s science classes took the initiative to show our community the importance and need for sustainable food. Crickets provide 4x the protein than beef, and are full of omega oils and vitamins. However, a shift in how we view ”strange” food such as crickets needs to happen, and these students are leading by example!

We are discussing pasta alternatives and healthy “swaps” in Nutrition class. These students made Pesto Sauce and tasted each other’s to pick the class favorite. They were all good! Kindergarten through 6th grade showcase their amazing talents in a school wide Arts Festival. The festival showcases over 500 artworks which are displayed throughout the school. During the evening parents can stop by to watch performances in dance, orchestra, Ukuele, piano, recorder and drama. Light refreshments are available for a small fee. The event takes place on May 23, 4:30 – 7:30 pm at the Elementary school campus.

Middle school students in 3-D art and creative writing participated in a pottery residency led by Quapaw artist, Betty Gaedtke, who shared information about the traditional forms and designs of Quapaw pottery and its significance to the history within the tribe. Students created a vessel using traditional techniques and tools allowing the class to gain a new understanding, respect, and awareness of cultural heritage of the Quapaw Nation through the hands-on experience.
Congratulations to the five students, Abigail Houchins, Collin Oldham, Taitum Meyer, Maggie Palmer, and Jennifer Self, who qualified to sing with the Arkansas All State Choir in Hot Springs at the All State Music conference. These students were chosen through a process that involves more than 8,000 students throughout the state starting with Regional Auditions back in October, and then the All State Auditions in February at Conway involving 800 of the top students from all over the state. This is the highest possible honor for choir students in this state and is a huge achievement for these singers!

Bus route times for Fay/Spr bus on Fri, 10/5: For a 3:20 departure from the school, the bus will arrive at the Jones Center at 3:55 PM, and at Toys R Us at 4:15 PM.
